| Further Information: Psathyrella candolleana (Fr.) Maire is a member of the ink cap family that occurs in all kinds of woodlands and clearings. This was photographed in open ground (field) in the island of Gozo. Its colour varies from white to beige to brown. When young, the pileus has a conical shape, which lattens at maturity to 3-7cm diameter. The spore print is dark brown, as are the mature gills. The young caps have hanging partial veil remnants on the margins, but there is typically not a persisting ring on the stem. The stem is very fragile and breaks very easily. It is a common and widespread species. |
